BA-2503, Maj Gen Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker, hdmc, psc,SGP was born on 10 August 1963 at Norshindi. He joined Bangladesh Military Academy on 22 January 1982 with 9 BMA Long Course and was commissioned on 23 December 1983 in the corps of Engineers. Maj Gen Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker is presently serving as Commandant, Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). His distinct military career is star-studded with a balanced composition of command, staff and instructional assignments.
Maj Gen Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker has an excellent academic background. He has obtained BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He is also a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, Dhaka. He has obtained Masters in Defence Studies from National University of Bangladesh. He has also completed Masters in Management Science with distinction from Osmania University of India. He attended a good number of courses both at home and abroad with brilliant results. His overseas training includes Operations of Engineering Plant Course in China and Higher Defence Management Course in India which he completed with admirable success. Presently he is pursuing PhD program on a topic of Environmental Science and Engineering.
As a staff, he was GSO-3 Int (CI) in HQ 24 Infantry Division, in the AHQ he has served as GSO-1, MO Dte and DW&CE. He has rendered his service in three different UN Missions i,e; Military Observer in UNPROFOR, Staff in UNMEE and UNMIL. As an instructor he has served in Engineer Centre and school of Military Engineering and MIST. He was also a Senior Instructor in MIST.
He has served in almost all the regimental appointments in Bangladesh Army. He has commanded 16 Engineer Construction Battalion, Sector Commander Bangladesh Border Guards (Erstwhile Bangladesh Rifles) and also commanded 14 Independent Engineer Brigade and Area Commander, Logistics Area. He was promoted to the rank of Maj Gen on 1st January 2013.
Maj Gen Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker has travelled far and wide. His visit profile includes many countries of the world, mentionable are: UK, USA, France, Switzerland, China, Thailand, Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, India, Liberia, Turkey etc.
He has achieved two awards:
- PBGM (President Border Guard Medal) for remarkable contribution in Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while serving as Sector Commander in 2009/10 (after math of BDR carnage)
- SGP (Sena Gourab Padak) from Bangladesh Army in 2011/12
